Stretch Armstrong BEATDOWN Article.

This article is from around, 1996 I think, judging by the Eric Sermon promo T, this is taken from BEATDOWN magazine, pretty interesting read, this was around the time Boogie and the Barber started at HOT 97 on Sundays from 12-2..

Here is a Freestyle from Serch & OC on the Stretch&Bobbito show from 1994, Serch mentions Sabac a few times in his raps here, this must have been right before Non Phxion formed, cuz weren't they all solo before? I could be wrong about that, well, OC rips, Riz was in the studio that day as well, hope you enjoy, and if you get a chance, go to DJ Souls Blog and get that DJ Clark Kent HOT 97 Memorial Day Mix, flawless!!

Bobbito's Barbershop!!

The influence Stretch & Bobbito had on Music and radio as a whole is just beyond anything I can even begin to say here. Everything from playing unheard of Artists and Demo's to the guests they had down, to Lord Sear clowning callers on the air, or spending an hour on air talking about snacks with Kool Keith, it was THE quintessential Radio Show to my life! We(7L&Esoteric) had the honor of being a guest on 89 tech 9 somewhere around the summer of 97, I remember being beyond nervous I didn't say more than 2 words, but Bobbito was very cool, down to earth, talked about new releases with us while off the air, I remember there were a few leaks from the Rakim's upcoming 17Th Letter album, and he was asking if we heard them ,and what we thought, and that he had just interviewed him for the next cover story of EGOTRIP...you know, treating us like he would anyone else and just really didn't disappoint. You know, sometimes, you meet someone and they are a total douche..this was like, ok I can I am happy if it all ends tomorrow...my second moment like that would be eating Wendy's in the back of Marley Marls Benz while taking a break from mixing 'Speaking Real Words' or running into Premier at Rock&Soul and approaching him to give him our 'Mic Mastery' 12" and saying he already had it, while quoting cuts I used in the hook...anyway, here are a few of Bobbito's Barbershop columns from the now defunct Rappages...big shout to my man DJ Anonymous ,I left you a few gifts below homeboy, and I will keep more of these coming in due time...plus other goodies that I have been diggin up....

BONUS POST!

Well, after spending about 2 Hours flipping thru SOURCE magazines, Straight From the Lip and BEATDOWN issues, I came across my RAPPAGES stacks, now I never cared much for this magazine, it wasnt my West Coast bias or anything, I just remember when it came out it reminded of like WORD UP! or one of those teeny Hip Hop publications..that said I still bought every issue, and def up my respect when Bobbito started writing for them...here is just one of many I will scanand share as time goes on...again, just click on the image to read...this one is from 93...Big Daddy Kane on the cover and REALLY dope interview with the BEATNUTS in the "So you wanna be a Producer" column...maybe I was too harsh on my evaluation of RAPPAGES now that I think of it, cause the SUWBAP articles always had top notch people, like the HARDPACK that Bucwild was a part of during his Mix Tape days...

YOUNGEST IN CHARGE!!!!

I spent most of my day today, converting Mix Tapes, not cd's, to MP3's...and it got me going thru old magazines ect, ect and I came up on a pile of my old SOURCE magazines, this one was from 1992, they did an EAR TO THE STREET on Doo Wop, Flex, 45 King and a few other DJ/Producers which I will post in due time, but this one is on RON G, who hands down was one of my favorite Mix Tape DJ's coming up, I sadly remember biting one of his blends in my early years DJing,he rocked 'Substitution' under Jackson 5's 'ABC', I only did it once,no one cared,I remember while the blend was going and in my mind I am killing it,a girl came over and asked when I was gonna play "Real Love" and not Old School...anyway.. I just thought this was a cool article...just click on the image to read...

I'm BACK!

video

I'm back from 7 days in Vegas and to avoid an intense bed sweat, shivering, convulsing, withdrawal process I am doing an 8 ball, drinking straight vodka, and banging a hooker while I write this. I had a blast, but I'm pretty much all set with Vegas for a while. Crooks party was ill as 7L said. You can check more pics at www.villageslum.com. Big shout to Luda, B-Lav (CROOKS), everyone at Karmaloop and especially my boo Dianne! Magic was cool, but my Boston George from the movie "Blow" lifestyle kicked in when me and Done Deal Will embarked on a 3 day binge labor day week end. Crooklyn Clan ripped it at LAX, we some how acquired 9 girls from Miami into our crew, balled out at Body English, went toe to toe with every roid chewing, douche bag in America at Rehab, and spent every cent we had left falling in love at the Rhino. So now I'm broke, basically a crack head, and it stings when I pee (just joking ladies...no for real...I'm JUST PLAYING...DAM!).

Magic Wrap Up Part 1!

OK, so much to my man Beyonder surprise, I am going to post a small re cap of our week at Magic(Beyonder will have his up soon w/Photo's and VIDEO!!)...Monday we rocked the CROOKS&CASTLES Party at the Hugh Hefner suite at the PALMS...needless to say shit was amazing, we rocked alongside Alchemist who got the place live rocking many of his own produced joints to straight up CNN War Report album cuts("Bloody Money" like what!!!)...trust me, I aint complaining...big shout to Will and Greg from Karma Loop as well as the whole Karma Loop tv crew,it was most def a good time!! We chilled with the homie G Squared on Tuesday, he was rocking BLUSH with Mighty Mi,and as Braun explained below Paul Peirce is still shook off that Made Men incident,Later in the week we bounced around to a few clubs, The Mix at Mandalay bay, kinda eh..PURE, stopped by The Playboy Club where Graham Funke was playing and Club Moon where DJ P was rocking an ALL VINYL set..5 crates behind him, all new shit too,I haven't seen that in ages, dope! B.O.B battling Beanie at the Don Cannon party, nuts, EPMD, Beatnuts and Liks were all out there doing shows, sadly I missed Kid Capri on Friday, I would have switched my ticket to see that...big shout to Ric Rude, ill Will, Texas Mike, Brek One,Jayceo were all out in Vegas,as well as Delvin&Darko(I owe y'all one!!!)...there of course will be more about the week, that'll be my Part 2, plus Beyonder stayed thru the weekend and met up with Riz and Sizzahandz so I know that was crazy...it was mad fun,met a ton of cool people, met a ton of Douchebags...here's my only complaint, I have been to Vegas a handful of times, and the cool guy factor is way too much during Magic week, I mean that plus the Christian Audigier shit, either your dealing with a dude who want to out "street wear" you, or another who wants to Ed Hardy you to death.. amazing....last I spoke to Beyonder he was at Body English where Clinton Sparks came out rocking a full on Marching Band outfit, with a 20 peice marching band behind him, bass drums, cymbals, the whole nine replaying Madonna's "4 Minutes" how dope is that!?!?!?

Anyhow,I had made a mix to hand out at Magic that upon listening on the plane I realised I wasn't too crazy about...I liked certain elements, but on the whole it could have been better. So I am going to re do parts and post it asap. But here is a mix I did for Magic back in 96/97(I forget), for PIMPGEAR..my man Rocky was going out there and wanted to have some mixes to hand out, he had asked me to do an originals mix, and I was pumped to do it..it got me out there a lot more, and still have people asking me about getting a copy today...
