just read.....was pretty amped out this Doo Wop shit i heard earlier in the week...I will say Doo Wop has always been the best DJ to touch the mic...granted, I have only heard the shit he had on the Noo Tribe Sampler back in the early 90's, as well as his countless classic mixtapes with him rhyming alongside the likes of Sadat X and KRS(not to mention the entire Bounce Squad) but still, I always liked his flow, sure his topics were mainly about DJing or his experiences coming up as a DJ, rocking the party as a DJ..fuck it..he's always been dope, and def one for the best live DJ's I have ever seen in my life, having seen him many times in the mid to late 90's...I remember back in 96 he was at North Eastern University, and for whatever reason the Security just kept delaying letting him get on (I guess the event wasn't fully cleared by the School or something, so Security was waiting for the proper 'go ahead' from the powers that be before shutting the lights and letting the soundman let it all go down)...long story short, at some point, someone must have told the sound guy "it's all good", he turned on the power, turned on the amps, and Doo Wop got on sparked the mic,and just shut shit down! instant energy, the whole place was willin' out, he came out to "Nobody Beats the Biz" just rocking that Steve Miller intro for like 2 minutes all while shouting various people in the place, esp the Bronx and the Zulu Nation...lights still on and everything, Security just had a look on their face once they figured out it was yet cleared, like "oh shit", cause u could tell they were trying to figure out how to stop the show without getting their ass' beat....Doo Wop only lasted a half hour before actual Police showed up and pretty quickly shut the event down without any major chaos...I believe the following night we went to "The Players Club" to check out Clark Kent..talk about an allstar weekend..The Players Club was a night held once a month where DJ's from Clark Kent,Kid Capri to Biz Markie etc would come to Boston to play...it was at Club essex, which I don't think was really a club, it was near South Station, it only lasted a few years...I think it's a Kinko's now....anyway, Doo Wop has always been a beast on the Mix Tapes, the studio and on the m-i-c....he also is very serious about representing the DJ's, I beleive he just went at Lil Wayne who said he wasn't going to do anymore mixtapes or some shit, something to the extent of 'fuck that shit'..I don't really know or care(about Weezy that is)...he has a new track floating around with Madonna...I mean..really..
were Freedom Williams and Turbo B ahead of their time?
There is a bunch of Hip Hop I am pretty amped for, the new Red and Meth sounds like it's gonna be dope, the "Dangerous MC's" track is a monster..the Ultra "Ego Trippin"-Esq chorus is very nice,I right away was reminded of when DJ Premier was up at Hot 97 DJing on mixmasters day weekend, prob back in 97/98...when did Q Ball and Kurt Cazals "Watch My Moves" come out? anyway, Fatman Scoop was the host and Method Man had called up to request Ultra's "Ego Trippin"....now if that isn't a bit of pointless rap factoid information that somehow has remained stuck in my brain(only to be awoken by hearing the "Dangerous MC's" track)I don't know what is...but I digress, the Statik Selektah Styles P, Talib joint is dope, shout to my man Statik for an ill fucking piano laced beat...speaking of Talib, new Reflection Eternal track sounds pretty nice, mainly because of Hi Tek who has always been one of my favorite beat guys to emerge out the late 90's generation of Producers...and I did recently find out that on the Reflection Eternal track, the "Fortified Live" one...with the Reggae sample...on the record it said 'loop found by JuJu' and I always thought it was Juju from Beatnuts, cause I know they did that kinda stuff with Jungle Brothers on their first record and so on and so forth...but it was actually one of Talib's boys, and possible early 3rd member/DJ of Reflection Eternal...anyway it was a different JuJu..not the German..I know Talib has had much success with the solo stuff but I prefer him with Hi Tek..kinda like CL Smooth with Pete Rock etc...who just(I am getting pretty ill at these segways)laced a nice beat for Krumbsnatcha's new single/song....the "Piano Lessons" Colin Munroe shit really grew on me, that shit is fire...and the Wale "Chillin" record is getting heavy burn in the club...which is somewhat refreshing, cause I typically hate 98.9% of the shit I end up playing at the Bottle Service/Shiny T Shirt ridden clubs we play at...but this shit is mega dope and I am pretty excited for his album(BLOGGERS NOTE:I am by no means acting like I am putting you up on a track hasn't already been talked/blogged 'Tweeted' about, I just wanted to clarify, I don't want my 'blog pass' revoked)...
Lastly, here is prob one of my favorite mixes by one of my favorite Producers, Prince Paul!! Confessions of a Beat Junkie was a promo mix Cassette given out(Iam pretty sure) before the the re release of Prince Paul's Psychoanalysis album on Tommy Boy(from the original on WordSound a year earlier)..I will go on record as saying Psychoanalysis is easily in my top 5...maaaaybe top 10 most favorite prized albums of all time...its flat out genius...like it's really just impeccable....the flyer above is from his night at APT...hilarious..
oh aaaaaaaaand one last plug, u must pick up the Spankrock DJ's(Devlin, Darko and XXXchange) latest release(or re release) Couche Tard...as always it's an off the wall mix of spanning many genre's and there is also a video to accompany the mix!
DJ related, we(BLADERUNNERS) will be at Puma City for the grand finale of the 3 week party NEXT FRIDAY, the 15th, we got mixes, special tee's and more good shit to give away, so drop by, I will be there alongside my pahtnah(as said like Tupac in Juice) in grime DJ Beyonder...Rich Medina and Kon and Gucci Vuitton are this weekend, so make sure you swing thru if ur in the Boston area, shit will be live!!
